GCCA Cares is determined to give back to our community by supporting local charities while we are guests in the cities that host our conferences.
For the 2022 GCCA Fall Conference, we have chosen the Georgia Sea Turtle Center.
The Georgia Sea Turtle Center, which operates as a department of the Jekyll Island Authority, is a state-of-the-art facility with a dedicated staff conducting education programs, rehabilitation, and research focused on sea turtle, coastal ecology, and other wildlife health and conservation. The GSTC opened in 2007 in the 14,400 square foot restored century-old power plant building located in the historic district. The building includes an interactive exhibit gallery, a viewing window into the veterinary care area and an elevated walkway though the rehabilitation pavilion. Visitors’ tour of the Center is enhanced by daily educational programs that are supported by internationally recognized veterinary and ecological research. In addition, the GSTC operates over 20 in-house education and outreach programs reaching about 12,000 students, tour participants, and community members annually. Since 2012, the GSTC has operated a robust online distancing learning program in which we have conducted virtual learning sessions in 25 US States, Costa Rica, Spain, and St. Kitts reaching 8,482 students. The GSTC’s gift shop provides guests the opportunity to purchase fun and conservation-oriented products.
